Just because you’re getting older, doesn’t mean you can’t feel confident in your own skin. Botox injections can reduce the look of lines and wrinkles in as little as 24 hours. As a medical spa, we get a lot of questions about what patients can expect during Botox treatment. Continue reading to learn our answers to some of the most frequently asked questions.

Can Botox prevent wrinkles?

Yes! Botox is able to paralyze muscles responsible for creasing the skin hundreds of times a day. If you have forehead lines, frown lines, or crow’s feet, you’ll want to ask if Botox injections are right for you. Botox is also able to prevent wrinkles by lifting the corners of your mouth.

When can I start Botox treatment?

You can start Botox treatment at any age. In general, we recommend starting Botox once you see lines and wrinkles while your face is at rest.

Each person is different. If you spent a lot of time outside, you may notice wrinkles and sun-damaged skin earlier than your friends. This is because UV rays take a toll on your skin. Likewise, smoking can cause your skin to prematurely wrinkle, making you look older than your chronological age.

How long will my appointment take?

The typical appointment at our medical spa lasts 10 minutes, making it easy to slip into your lunch hour before you have to return to work.

How long will it take before I notice a difference?

It takes time to notice the effects of Botox. In general, you’ll start to notice a difference a couple of days after your appointment. Over the next 2 weeks following your appointment, you’ll notice a gradual improvement in the tightness and elasticity of your skin.

How long does Botox last?

Botox typically lasts 3 to 4 months, but results vary from person to person. To maintain the youthful look you get from Botox you will need to continue treatment.

Is Botox safe?

Botox is a safe procedure that has been successfully used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles for many years. Cosmetic doses for Botox are significantly less than what’s considered dangerous.

Even in the extremely rare likelihood Botox molecules were able to enter the bloodstream and migrate to other areas of the body, the amount of Botox used to reduce facial wrinkles wouldn’t be enough to cause systemic harm.

Does Botox hurt?

We’ll numb the area with ice or a topical anesthetic so all you’ll feel is a pinch. Many of our clients feel that Botox injections are worth the slight discomfort if it means looking years younger.

What are the side effects of Botox?

You may experience slight discomfort and bruising at the injection site. However, we ask that you avoid the temptation to rub the treated area for at least 12 hours after the procedure. It may also be a good idea to schedule an hour of rest after receiving Botox injections (though it’s not necessary). While eyelid drooping is rare, it can happen when patients rub the Botox injection sites and cause the Botox to migrate.
